We Love The Hope in Carshalton

So Rowan was one of the first guys to contact us – we think it was through James Brodies giving him the low down on this cool new brewery to open- thanks James, but Rowan has been a great customer for us since we started and is a downright decent chap.

Hope Carshalton

So we are very pleased to announce that we will be heading down to The Hope in Carshalton on the 21st June and have a few beers in tow to delight anyone coming along.  Here is a sneak peek

Cask : Usual motley crew with the added bonus of Sweet Dream – our NEW Chocolate Milk stout thats as big on chocolate & Vanilla as Broken Dream is on Coffee.

Also Half Mast our 2.8% Session IPA will be making its debut – this is a high flavour hop bomb that belies its strength, come along and we might tell some secrets.

But here are the real beauties:

Bourbon Barrel Broken Dream : Only the second one to be racked & it is AMAZING!  How do you follow that – well that is a surprise.

On KEG Rowan will be serving Sound Wave and we will talk through the differences on cask and Keg which should be a fascinating chat.

Limoncello IPA will be the final beer to round off the night and this 9% IPA designed to mimic Limoncello with a sour mash and added lactose will surely divide the room with its detesters and lovers.  This is a Siren, Mikeller, Hill Farmstead collaboration and it stretches the idea of what beer can be.

We hope to see you there

Thanks For A Great Launch

Saturday the 9th of March was a great day for Siren Craft Brew.  It was the culmination of years of dreaming, planning and hard work.

To be able to launch across all 4 Craft Beer Co venues was testament to a lot of courage from Martin Hayes and gave us a great platform to show what we can do.

Nice Pump Clips

Nice Pump Clips

On balance each of our beers pretty much hit where we would have expected for batch 1 on a new system, and bar carbonation issues tasted fantastic.  A few process changes mean that we already have a fuller brighter flavour developing in batch 2 for Sound Wave and Undercurrent.

Broken Dreams and Undercurrent

But this blog is a thank you.  Firstly to all our families that have helped support us to get to this point, all the people who have helped get the brewery up and running, Voyage Design who have worked tirelessly on the marketing side of things, but as importantly the customers who turned up in blind faith over the weekend to try our beers.

The day started well with my Dad queuing outside Clerkenwell to be duly served the first glass of Siren, with our local Camra SE Berkshire group not far behind.  The pump clips looked fantastic, even though we didn’t have anything for the keg lines – the standard pump clips held up for the day.  It was great to mingle with everyone, listening to feedback and getting input on the beers.  On the whole it seemed there wasn’t a clear winner in that for some people Undercurrent was their choice as it is extremely drinkable and full of flavour, Sound Wave had her champions, but Liquid Mistress and Broken Dream seemed to be the two that had most people talking.

For me, one of my highlights of the day was standing next to someone at the bar who didn’t know I was with the brewery, take his first sip of Liquid Mistress and show to Chris the barman how impressed he was before walking off to enjoy his pint slowly.

So after such a great launch now follows the hard work – maintenance of consistency and quality whilst looking to improve the beers any way we can while maintaining their original character.  Obviously we already have many new projects in the pipeline and bottling shouldn’t be too far away, so keep your eyes and ears peeled.

THANKS!! – looking forward to the ride.

The Extra’s – Our Launch news for the 9th

As we are getting ready for our launch across all of  The Craft Beer Co venues on the 9th March, we asked the bar managers if they wanted to add their own little touch of flair to one of our beers.

So here is the run down of what you can get and where.

In Islington we are aiming to bring you in from the cold with the addition of vanilla & smoked chili to Broken Dream, our Breakfast Stout.

Brighton have decided that Rum Soaked Oak Chips are the flavour to enhance our Breakfast Stout.

Clerkenwell have gone their separate way with adding Tequila soaked oak chips to Sound Wave IPA.

They will all go on the bar on the 9th and won’t be around for long.

We are really looking forward to our launch and finally getting our beers to you.

Hot News Siren Launch at Craft Beer Co announced

Block out the 9th march in your diary. We are extremely excited to be launching all four of our core beers in all Craft Beer Co locations on the same day.

Sound Wave, Liquid Mistress, Broken Dream and Undercurrent will all be available in cask and keg format alongside each other. For even more amazing choice each bar manager will come down Us to choose a beer to make into their own. This should make for a great pub crawl to try each one across London before they run out.

Whether you are into super hoppy IPA’s, amazing roasty stouts, caramel reds (with loads of hops) or a balanced Pale there will be something calling your name.

We will be heading over to base ourselves in Clerkenwell from 12:00 to chat and answer any questions and are really looking forward to seeing you there.

Tasting Night

The idea was very noble…. To get a group of foodies and beer lovers together to go through a bunch of  the best craft beer we could get hold of with short notice, and pull them all apart, what we liked, what we didnt and why!

The scene was set very nicely in the Malmaison Hotel in Reading with some great food and service, the requisite flavour wheel and bank notebooks.

Craft Beer Taste FlavourWheel

Beer Taste Flavour Wheel

After a brief introduction to the process of brewing from Darron Anley, we got straight into a little training on how to use the flavour wheel, a huge array of description words for tastes and aromas and then dived into the beers.

We had a great selection;

lagers from Camden, Brewdog and Meantime

Pale Ales from The Kernel, Camden, Rogue

IPA’s from everyone – Arbor Ales, Lovibonds, The Kernel, Rogue, Thornbridge, Brewdog to name a few

As well as an assortment of stouts, sour beers and even a cider (not sure how that got added to the list?- Oh yeah the brewer made it)

In all fairness the evening fell rather short of any high and mighty business ideas, but was a fantastic chance to mix with friends over some amazing IPA’s and other beers to highlight what we hope to bring to the table.

Somebody did write some notes though – We haven’t seen them since though.
